Mackenzie Investments Security Breach

Statera Financial Planners |

Holders of mutual funds managed by Mackenzie Investments, this is to advise that one of their third-party vendors, InvestorCOM Inc. was compromised due to a cybersecurity incident related to technology supplier GoAnywhere.

Mackenzie Investments uses InvestorCOM for print and delivery services of client materials. InvestorCOM uses GoAnywhere’s services for secure data transfer.  This cybersecurity incident at GoAnywhere has potentially impacted over 130 organizations around the world including The City of Toronto, Hitachi Energy, Procter and Gamble and several financial firms including Edward Jones, Onex and Franklin Templeton.

After receiving notice of the incident from InvestorCOM, Mackenzie Investments took immediate steps to begin a full forensic investigation and have been in regular contact requesting the necessary information to determine whether investor information was impacted.  As part of this investigation, it was discovered that some personal information of current and former investors of Mackenzie Investments may have been impacted, such as name, address, SIN and account number. Financial information, such as account holdings and balances were not exposed in this incident.  It is also important to note that your investment holdings in Mackenzie funds were NOT impacted and their internal systems have not been compromised.

The first priority has been to ensure notification to impacted clients.  If not already, you will be receiving a notification letter shortly that will provide detailed information about any compromised personal data and outlines the extensive support being provided, including two-year comprehensive credit monitoring, at no cost, from TransUnion. This includes credit monitoring alerts, identity theft protection services, fraud victim assistance and up to $1,000,000 in identity theft insurance.

If you have not received a letter by May 12, it has been advised that you contact TransUnion at 1-833-433-1613 and they will provide the information required to register for credit monitoring and identity theft insurance.

Please feel free to contact Statera Financial Planners if you wish to discuss this further, but it would be recommended to wait until a letter has been received.
